Hodago Fishing

Who we are

Hodago Fishing (Pty) Ltd was formed in 2015 as a joint venture between Kusieb Fishing Enterprises (KFE) and Gendev Fishing Resources (Pty) Ltd. We operate as a mid-water trawling company in the Horse Mackerel fishing industry. Hodago’s company philosophy is characterized by the desire to provide quality and affordability across all markets. The name Hodago means “we found it” and is a derivative from the Damara-Nama dialect in Namibia. Not only does it reflect the country’s true identity as a prosperous entity in its own right, but it also recognizes the challenges that both KFE and Gendev had to overcome in order to develop a flagship operator in Namibia.

Our primary objective is to provide for right holders towards their allocated quotas and also fulfilling the consequent obligations arising from the same in line with Namibia’s governing policies and laws.

Founded for Namibians

Hodago Fishing (Pty) Ltd is committed to advancing Namibia’s Harambee Prosperity Plan. The joint venture company consists of Kuiseb Fishing Enterprises (Pty) Ltd, Gendev Fishing Resources (Pty) Ltd and Venmar Fishing (Pty) Ltd. Among the core aims is to sustainably harvest and distribute the Namibian fish resource while cognizant of national interests for the collective good of all Namibians.

ECONOMIC SUPPORT

Hodago Fishing endeavors to contribute to the Namibian economy by:

  • Being an employer to 159 Namibians at various levels.
  • Remaining committed and complaint to statutory fees, levies, taxes and other payments to government
  • Assisting with infrastructure development for selected beneficiaries as identified per company policy criteria.

  • The company also endeavors to be the leading wholly Namibian-owned mid water trawling company which adds value to both product and personnel along the value chain whilst growing Namibian wealth.

    Building a Future

We recognize the necessity of sustainability across living marine resources such as Trachurus spp and aim to derive optimal benefits from fishing stocks without foreclosing future generations. Our products combat common national issues in several areas. They address poverty and hunger by alleviating food insecurity in the country through local fish distribution. They also provide a nourishing alternative for consumers by supplying them with healthy doses of omega three fatty acids and protein found in the fish diet. A further benefit of our products is that they are relatively affordable when compared to substitute products such as chicken and other meats.

    We strive for

NAMIBIAN FISHING INDUSTRY growth & SUSTAINABILITY

Ensuring that we can achieve true fishing sustainability provides stable longterm employment to Namibia.

    Products

Unlike other fishing partnerships, Hodago’s involvement in the industry extends beyond catching, freezing, and selling fish. We recognize the untapped potential in other innovative approaches taken on by rights holders such as transforming Horse Mackerel into dry fish soup, developing smoking facilities and wet fish processing plants, and dealing with frozen mackerel fillets to name but a few.

Core to the company’s output is our 30kg Horse Mackerel which is offered in a variety of sizes ranging from 14m to 25+. The market demands high stocks of 18+, 20+ and 25+, but these sizes are in short supply and so other Horse Mackerel grades and mixes are taken into the marketplace, including the smaller sizes of 16+, 16m and 14m. When Horse Mackerel is targeted, there are incidental catches of marine ecosystem neighbors.
